Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone! As many of you know, I had originally not planned on doing training updates. My decision was based on previous forays into blogging and how I quickly lost interest in it because it was just one big training log. However, now that I’m in more of a grove of blogging more about life, parenting, and running in general, I thought that training updates would be a nice complement to the blog as a whole. These will be relatively short recaps of the past week’s training.
So as you know, I just started a new training plan just recently (read more about why here). I’m using a training plan put together by Runner’s World smart coach. I’m digging the workouts so far, so we’ll see if it produces on the promised results. Of course, I guess that all depends on me too, huh? In any case, here’s a recap of this past week’s training:
Tuesday
2 miles @ 8:34. I was SUPPOSED to go at a slower 9:41 pace. However, it was extremely cold out and the first mile is mostly downhill. Sometimes I let my legs get ahead of me.
Wednesday
4 mile interval training. I thought I was supposed to do 5, so I actually did run 5…but the last 1.5 miles was pure jog/walk/jog because I was so tired from the two intervals. So, the workout went 0.5 easy, 1 @ 7:46, 0.5 easy, 1 @ 8:07, 1.5 easy. Left it all out there.
Friday
2 miles @ 9:07. Despite it being extremly cold again, I did a much better job of slowing it down and having an easy pace. I ran a flat course which definitely helped out. Definitely needed the recovery.
Sunday
9 miles @ 9:53. I honestly don’t even know how I pulled that off. I had to walk so many times during this run from like 2 miles to 7 miles due to “stomach issues.” I’m so glad I got it in though. Here’s the breakdown:
- 9:07
- 9:23
- 10:20
- 11:52
- 9:41
- 10:08
- 10:09 (included “fuel” break)
- 9:01
- 9:07

Awesome 9 miler. It is very cold today 21 (degrees) and I am about to head out on a 9 miler of my own. This was great motivation to go out and get mine done.
Just started reading your blog. As a dad and a new (since May 2012) runner myself it hits the spot in what I’m interested in right now. Keep it up!
Thanks for checking out the blog!
